I’m very happy to finally cross something off of my list! The Swallowtail Shawl is off the needles and around my shoulders.

Here’s the revised list

WIPS

Sweaters

Socks

Cowls/Scarves/Neckthings/Shawls (This section is a total “maybe”)

Hands and Head

The Riff socks are coming along nicely. It looks like they’ll be finished in time for Husband’s birthday at the end of this month. I’m going to cast on for a new shawl for my mom. She’s politely asked for one that’s a bit longer.

Sandy left Mom and my sister Maritza without power up until yesterday. That was the only “damage” they had and our town is okay. The surrounding neighborhoods that are closer to the Hudson River (parts of Weehawken, Hoboken, North Bergen) are disaster zones. Most of those houses have ben condemned because they filled with sewage. None of that compares with the damage at the Jersey Shore. Places that I visited not too long ago simply don’t exist.

Ouch, it’s been some time since I did one of these, eh? What have I been doing since August? Let’s have a look:

WIPS

  •  Tripping the Rift socks Also known as the SGT’s socks. These have been worked on, frogged, and restarted since last Wednesday. This time, I’m counting my stitches and making sure everything is adding up.
  • Sketchbook cardigan. The back and both fronts have now been finished. I’m currently working on the hem and then I have to make the sleeves and the collar and placket. Quite a bit ahead of me but hopefully I’ll be finished by December.
  • Hexipuff blanket. I’ve churned out a hexipuff here and there. I do my best to set a goal of one hexipuff a day but that doesn’t seem to work out very well for me.

Sweaters I haven’t started on any of these.

Socks These have been ignored as well.

Cowls/Scarves/Neckthings/Shawls (This section is a total “maybe”)

Hands and Head Just like the sweaters and socks category, I haven’t worked on any of these.

I’m still plugging away at my works in progress, which has been the most important to me. I’m also working on a test knit for a friend and I’ve been busy working away at my own hat design. Plus, I really feel the need to write up a pattern for my Adventure Time hat. I have other somewhat yarn related projects in the works that I can’t talk about that I’ve been plugging away at every day. I’m quite glad that I don’t work outside the home because running this blog and my knitting have almost turned into full time jobs!

Slow and steady wins the race, so I shall keep plugging away.

Year of Projects: Knitting in Public

Thursday I had my infusion, and it went quite well. It didn’t take six hours as I was told but three. The infusion center at Vanderbilt is amazing! You’re put into a private room with two recliners, a flat screen tv that has a built in DVD player (they have DVDs you can borrow for free as well!) and a strong wifi signal. I was really comfortable so I kept working on my Swallowtail shawl.

I managed to do two budding lace repeats there. I’m now on repeat number 9 of 14. I’m itching to finish this part and move on to the next! I have other projects that are neglected thanks to this but it’s so pretty! I can’t help it.

Year of Projects: Swallowtail Shawl

Some progress on my list has been made on the list. On Friday, I worked on the first chart for the Swallowtail shawl.

It doesn’t look like much, but it’s a start! I’ve made one change to the pattern and that’s using size US 7s instead of the US 6s that are recommended. The yarn is fingering weight but it feels a little heavy without being a sport weight. And my only set of 6s are currently in use for my Sketchbook Cardigan. Obviously, I need to order more from Knit Picks.

I’m not quite sure how much work I’m going to get done today on the shawl. I’ve got a pile of laundry to do, I have to buy groceries and do the dishes. But deep down? I want to stay in my pajamas and knit the day away.

Year of Projects: Week 2

Oh goodness, has this ever slipped my mind. Let’s recap what I’ve been working on, shall we?

  • I’ve got some more done on my Sketchbook Cardigan.
  • I’ve made a few hexipuffs, bringing my total up to 45 puffs. I’m setting a tentative goal of 200 puffs just to see how it looks.

And that’s about it from my list. Tomorrow, I’m having a maid come in to clean up the house (great timing on my part!) and organize the back room where I keep all my yarn. Hopefully my biggest WIP, having a quiet room/craft room will be done soon.

Year of Projects: The List

I’ve decided to join the Come Blog Along Year of Projects! I’m hoping that this will really cut down my stash and enhance my wardrobe since I’ll be knitting mostly sweaters. It helps that now I have a sweater machine so I should be able to breeze through most of these patterns.

Okay here’s my list so far:

WIPS

Sweaters

Socks

Cowls/Scarves/Neckthings/Shawls (This section is a total “maybe”)

Hands and Head

So it’s quite a list but I am not aiming for all of it to be completed, except for the WIPs. If I could get one of each category done, I’ll be happy. I also want to knit up (or at least swatch up) a bunch of sweater designs I’ve sketched out. They’re all inspired by a cast of characters from a book series I loved as a kid and I’m really excited about the idea. That’s all I want to say just in case it never gets off the ground.

If any of my fair readers have made any of the patterns I’ve listed and can offer a pearl or two of wisdom in the comments, I’m much obliged. Is anyone else participating?
