WIP Wednesday: Circle Socks

The short row heel socks I was working on have been frogged. Somehow, I managed to cast on 82 stitches instead of my usual 62. And in our move, I think I put that ball of yarn into a box which is now in storage. I’ve had the itch to work on socks so I treated myself to a ball of Crazy Zauberball.

The pattern is Anne Campbell’s Circle Socks. They were designed for self striping/crazy striping yarn. I’m planning on changing out the heel for a short row heel because I’m bent on trying out the technique. Plus, I think it’s an usual pattern.

WIP Wednesday: Short row heel socks

I’ve been meaning to try out this whole short row heel sock thing for some time. Most of the socks I’ve made have a flap and gusset heel which is nice but tends to sag around my heels. Apparently, I have very pointy heels. One way to make my sock heels less saggy is to go down a needle size for the heels. I haven’t tried that yet but I might next time.

For now, the curious monkey in me wants to try a new technique. I’ve done short rows before so the new-to-me part is applying them to sock heels.

The bait and switch is this: I haven’t started on the heel part yet. I can’t decide if I want to knit the leg a bit longer. Right now it’s at 3.5″ but I’m getting a wee bit bored with plain stockinette in the round. The yarn, however, is scrumptious! Sharp eyed readers may recognize it as yarn I picked up from Stitches South. It’s Cephalopod Yarn Skinny Bugga in Maxima Clam. It’s really soft but it’s been really good about not pilling like the Dream in Color Smooshy I used for my Mrs Tumnus shawl.

I’ve been busy finishing up some other projects but you’ll get to see those on Friday! For more works that are in progress, check out Tami’s blog.

WIP Wednesday: Roosevelt the Monster

I’ve been a member of the FreshStitches kit club for some time now.

yarn

This month’s creature is Roosevelt the Monster! The added bonus (every package comes with a bonus!) is that skein of specialty yarn. It’s Shepard’s Wool Crazy yarn by Stonehedge Fiber Mill and Stacey made sure that we got a skein in our favorite colors. I like how mine is red, white and blue (with a bit of green thrown in as well) making my Roosevelt a very patriotic monster. There is another bonus but I’m going to keep mum on that until the big reveal day (May 10th) when everyone has their own kit.

Sign ups for the next round of the club begin in August and she’s unveiled a new monthly payment plan instead of paying it all up front.

WIP Wednesday: Mrs Tumnus shawl-ing along

I can’t seem to put down this shawl! I’ve been busy watching the first season of Game of Thrones (I’m way behind, I know) and knitting on this at the same time.

I’ve been very impressed with how easy the repeats are to memorize and how quickly it knits up. The yarn is living up to its name, it’s so smooshy!

WIP Wednesday: Mrs Tumnus Shawl

After my hard week of being sick and miserable and dizzy (yay, ear infection! It’s like I’m 4 again!) I treated myself to a new knitting pattern. I’ve been eying Eskimimi‘s Mrs Tumnus Shawl for some time and I finally picked it up.

mrstumnus

I haven’t gotten very far because I knitted the first wrong all WRONG. Apparently, it’s not ssk, yo for the whole thing. Reading is fundamental, ya’ll! Speaking of fun, the red and blue stitch markers were a gift (along with one of her Tool Tins) from Sarah the Sexy Knitter. The eagle-eyed among my readers might recognize the yarn. It was another swap gift from Underground Crafter last year. The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy (100% merino) in the colorway Pansy Go Lightly. It’s slightly variegated from purple to deeper blues and brownish greens. The changes are very soft so I think it would work well in this rather straight forward shawl.

WIP Wednesday: Lydia Bennet sock has a heel!

Yes, my second sock has a heel and I’m on the decreases. Which means this sock is in its awkward teenage phase. It sort of looks like a sock but still has a way to go. It’s also difficult to photograph it nicely.

I’ve got 4 out of 9 decreases done before I knit my way down to the toes. I am confident that I’ll have a finished pair of socks by the end of the month! If that does happen, I’ll be parading them around Stitches South.

Speaking of which, if you are going and would like to meet up, get in touch! For more WIPs, check out Tami’s blog.

WIP Wednesday: Random penguin parts

I’ve been working on a test crochet for Stacey from FreshStitches and Abby from While She Naps. Abbey is a (sewn) softie maker and Stacey makes amigurumi toys. They’ve teamed up to make a penguin! It’s a match made in toy heaven I think.

Penguin parts

It doesn’t seem like much now but he’s going to be so cute! I’m not testing Abby’s sewn part but I might make it on my own time. We’ll see.

On a personal note, today marks the 4th anniversary of my dad’s passing. I miss him terribly. Except he never understood the purpose of having many projects in the works. “Teje, teje, teje! Y no terminas nada*,” he would say to me and my mom and my other sisters.  So in true youngest daughter fashion, this post is dedicated to annoying him!

(Knit knit knit! And you never finish a thing.)

WIP Wednesday: One sock down…

I finished one sock of two from my Lydia Bennet pink riot socks! And yes, I’ve been rewatching the BBC version from the 80s while knitting these. I’ll be honest, I don’t really care for Kiera Knightly and her version of the book.

socks

I’ve got two out of four lace repeats done and then it’s on to the heel turn! After the heel turn is where I’m in for the long slog. I have very long feet (anywhere between 9.5″ to 10″ from the back of my heel to the tip of my toe) and I knit the length of the foot for about 8.5″ until I begin to decrease for the toes. Sometimes I wish I had dainty little feet. I could whip up socks in no time.

I’ve picked up the Sketchbook Cardigan that’s been laying dormant. I’ve got the body all done all I need to call this done are the sleeves and then the button band!

I started this sweater almost a year ago according to its Ravelry page. Fingers crossed I can actually finish this soon!
