Oh boy, the day has gotten away from me. My birthday has been a total blast. My husband and friends threw me a surprise party on Friday. It was extra special because it’s my first one.

And husband surprised me with a knitting machine! I am now the proud owner of my very own Ultimate Sweater Machine. Sweaters for almost every body! Two of our friends have known each other since high school and one loves to one up the other. Friend A, gifted me a card for JoAnn’s for $30. Friend J, gifted me one for $31. Friend A knows how Friend J rolls so he bought a SECOND one for $5. We now have on video me wheezing from laughing so hard over this exchange. We all thought Friend J was going to pull out cash to top that. Unfortunately, he didn’t.

I have picked a winner! I asked hubs to pick a number between 1 and 43 and he chose 6 which is the lovely, Erin! Here is her birthday memory:

It’s my favorite birthday memory now, but it was traumatic at the time.

For the eighth birthday, my parents thew a big family party for me, and there were probably 30 people jammed into our tiny living room.

As is tradition, I was sitting in the middle of the room, opening presents on the floor while everyone oohed and ahhed. I was enjoying the attention (middle child).

And then I got to the gift from my great-grandmother. I still have no idea why this is what she decided to get me, but she bought me underwear and little camisole training bra things. That I opened. In front of everyone.

I wasn’t 100 percent sure what I was looking at when I pulled out the camisoles, but I dutifully held them up like I had every other gift. And everyone in the room started laughing.

I promptly burst into tears and ran out of the room, halting the party while my great-grandma came to talk me out of my hysterics. Good times.

Hope your birthday this year is just as memorable as my eighth!

It certainly was but less embarrassing. I think my mom did the same to me at the age of 8.

This week’s Junebug Days color is…teal! I’ve documented my love for the color blue before so picking just one blue thing that I love is awfully hard. But I have made a decision. My favorite blue thing is my waterlily painting.

Waterlily

With Apologies to Monet

I have it hanging proudly above my sofa. The few guests we’ve had over have admired my wall o’ fame consisting of my previous paintings and some of my embroideries. But this one is my absolute favorite.

If you’d like to join that giveaway, the rules are over here. Remember, I’m running my own giveaway of Lion Brand Yarn over at this blog post.

EDIT: Winner has been announced! Keep reading for future giveaways.

That’s right, folks. I’m giving away some pretty cool stuff! Before I show you the goods, I’d like to bore you with why I’m doing this. You see, Friday January 27 marks one year that I left the hospital and all treatments behind. Chemo was done and I weathered the worst nutropenic fever. I was home free and didn’t need to see my oncologist for another two months.

So to celebrate the end of all cancer related treatments, I’m having a giveaway! Here are the goods that could be going home to you:

Candy Skein Yarn

Candy Skein Yarn!

A skein of Tempting Sock from the wonderful Candy Skein yarns. The colorway is lemon-lime since lime green is the awareness color for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. (Note: Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is violet. They are two different cancers.) It’s a fingering weight yarn and it’s made of 80% wool, 10% cashmere and 10% nylon.

Also! You’ll receive a set of cute candy beads also from Tami:

There are 7 beads in all, not just the four pictured above. I think they’re super cute. But wait, there’s more. You’ll also win a copy of Lion Brand Yarn: Just Hats: Favorite Patterns to Knit and Crochet.

This giveaway is open to everyone around the world as well. So please, help spread the word. EDIT: Limit one comment per person. Oh the details, they escape me sometimes.

The winner will be chosen via random number generator on Friday January 27th in celebration at 10am Central time. Good luck to everyone and thanks for being a reader.
