Stop the Planet of the Apes! I Want to Get Off!

Sunday, Husband and I went to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Best part of the movie? Scoring this little guy out of the gumball machine.

Yes, I have no resistance when it comes to tiny plastic toys. My addiction has been well documented on this site.

I didn’t enjoy the film at all and spent most of it shaking my head at how the director, script writers and producers just threw science out the window. I will say this, the CGI was amazingly well done. And it made me want to read more of Jane Goodall’s works.

I have previously read In the Shadow of Man and found it an easy and compelling read. Ms. Goodall is an amazing woman and the lives of chimps are so wonderfully complex. There were a few personalities that she met that reminded me of people I’ve encountered.

Tiny Things are Super Cute

I blogged before about my love for tiny plastic things. As a birthday present to my self I bought a Jar of Whimsey and a vintage crewel kit from my new favorite internet store, Tiny Things are Cute. Oh My Bob, I love them all!

The back says it’s big enough to make a pillow or wall hanging out of. I think I’ll frame this and hang it up somewhere. I love the funky shape of the tea pot and the bowl of fruit. This was a total impulse buy, but it’s worth it! I love it too much.

The next piece must come with a warning. These are the highlights from the Jar o’ Whimsy. It was hard picking out the best stuff since it was all great stuff but the following were really amazing bits of treasure. I’m still in a tizzy over this jar of awesome mostly plastic toys.

The weirdest piece by far is the half orange half bird thing. According to the information on his feet, he was made by the Disney Company. I haven’t bothered to look but I wonder why.

I love the gavel and the cat with creepy yellow eyes. Come on, it’s a plastic gavel! Now I can bring order to my tiny plastic court! Assuming I had one. (Note to self, make tiny plastic court, stat!) The butterfly pin is very fancy and something that my younger self would have treasured for ever. It’s now in the secret hiding spot in my jewelry box. And no, you can’t have it.

The piece de resistance is the telescope. Why? Because when you look in it, you see a picture of Lucy and Ricky! How epic is that?!

This jar was full of whimsy (and puffy stickers! And tiny erasers in the shape of stuff! And little charms for a charm bracelet!) and general stuff I would have hoarded as a kid. This is not a paid endorsement, just a gushing fan post.

Customer service was great and they are really responsive on their FB fan page. I ordered a jar for my sister (and frequent commenter) Maritza to cheer her up and Caryn, the owner, asked if there was anything in particular that should have been included. Plus I got a free little gift with my order! I love tiny free things!

My day has been officially made!

My name is Vanessa and I have a problem with collecting small cute things. This weekend I finally gave in to temptation and bought my first set of Squinkies. They are too adorable for words.

I blame it on the bird. It’s coy look just sent me over the edge. Plus birds are my favorite animal.

Plus the bee and the fairy are just too much. It’s going to be an exercise in restraint to not buy more. Since my cancer journey began, I’ve made it a point to surround myself with cute and happy things and get rid of the negative. Unfortunately, that has meant cutting out negative and overly dramatic people but I think my life is just richer for it. My life is also richer now that I bought Pokemon Black for my DS.

My name is Vanessa and I’m still 12 in many ways. I can’t believe that I’ll be 26 in June. It will be a good birthday, regardless!

From my terrarium posts you’ve probably noticed that I have a thing for figurines.

X-men 3

I love to collect little toys from gumball machines and I’ve got about 20 so far. I’m most proud of these.

X-men 8

These weren’t from a machine, but from a set called Marvel Minimates by Diamond Select Toys . It’s the X-Men from Giant-Size X-Men #1. I was a big fan of the FOX Kids tv show and a fan of Wolverine in general.

X-men 9

Isn’t he cute? I couldn’t pass them up when I saw them. Rest of the photos can be found in my Flickr set.
