In light of Friday’s school shooting, the following is a list of groups that are accepting hand crafted (and store bought) gifts to donate to the families of Newton, CT. Christmas is a time we should be thinking about what we can do for others and I will sending things their way.
- FreshStitches is teaming up with crochet guilds to send out cuddly toys. You can read about Stacey’s involvement here.
- The Happily Hooked on Crocheting Club of Danbury CT is donating both handmades and store bought items. They’re looking for scarves, hats, gloves, and whatever else people can spare.
- If you’d like to make a friendly monster, there’s a Ravelry group called 600 Monsters Strong. There are specific guidelines in place so please read it carefully before casting on.
- The United Way of Western Connecticut is accepting donations earmarked for their Sandy Hook School Support Fund. More information including a mailing address and online donation form can be found here.
Long time blog readers know that I grew up in New Jersey, not too far away from Connecticut. I was in the 8th grade when the Columbine shooting happened and while that shooting felt very real to me, part of me also thought that things like that would never happen on the East Coast much less so close to home.
