Okay, so the title of this is a little misleading. It’s not for her but the yarn was a gift from her. This is an old finished object, but one that needed a better photo and a blog post to go along with it.
My mother-in-law purchased the yarn for me during the early part of my cancer diagnosis as a get well soon present.

She knows me so well! The yarn label is tucked away somewhere but it was from a sheep out in Spokane, WA where she lives. The label had a photo of the sheep that produced the yarn which is why she got it. Plus it’s blue and kinda sparkly.
I adapted the Yarn Harlot’s One Row Scarf pattern for this cowl. More info can be found on its Ravelry page.
The cowl is very snuggly and I wore it during treatment. It even doubled as a head warmer most days. My husband wasn’t a fan of that look but it kept me cozy and that’s all that mattered. I mean it’s not like the hospital is a fashion runway now, right?

Beautiful yarn! You’re beautiful, too!
If you (or anyone else) is interested, I have a giveaway for a custom dyed skein of yarn happening on my blog right now. http://philwife.blogspot.com/2012/08/custom-dyed-yarn-giveaway.html
I love the story behind the yarn and the cowl is great! It is pretty striking combined with that shirt, too.
Lovely cowl, gorgeous colours. And if it kept you cosy then that’s even better!
I love a knitting project with a story, you’re an inspiration!
You’ve come a long way! Glad you can keep the cowl as a memory of the journey.
Check you out looking quite the sexxxy! Your hair looks fabooo!
Great cowl. I like the story behind the yarn. I’ve only seen garments with the knitter’s name on it, but not the provider of the wool, the sheep. How lovely. It makes a ball of yarn special and lets us think about all the wonderful animals that provides us with goods.
Your cowl deserves a blog post. I hope you don’t need to cover your head in the cowl anymore (at least not because of cancer treatment). But if there will be an occasion to do so, I think fashion is never an issue when we feel cold.
