Ways to relieve pre CT scan jitters

Tomorrow I have another CT scan and an appointment for the results with my oncologist. I’ve posted about this before asking for good thoughts but I haven’t written down just what I do to relieve the scan-xiety jitters.

  • Have your favorite meal. I usually give myself a pass on trying to eat better the night before a scan. I try to eat something good for my body but I’ll also indulge in something either sweet or something that just makes me think of home and happier days.
  • Watch something funny. Laughter is the best way for me to forget about all the “What if?”s that are swirling around in my head. And it has to be something that leaves me gasping for breath because I’m laughing so hard. So it might be re watching Jim Gaffigan’s Hot Pockets bit, or sometimes something really stupid like Ace Ventura.
  • Work on a project. Preferably one that requires concentration. If I have to pay attention or else I’ll make a big mistake, then I can’t dwell on things that are beyond my control. This is when I break out the lace.
  • Do something physical. Whether it’s scrubbing down the bathtub, taking a long and hard run or just walking around, a tired mind is a quiet mind. Plus you’ll fall into bed exhausted and will most likely not end up tossing and turning with worry.

I can’t guarantee that any of these are fail-proof but they might make the day go by a little faster.

  1. Those are some good ideas. My mom has her Ct scan coming up as well, so if I see that she’s anxious I’ll suggest some of them to her. Thanks. Good luck on your upcoming results!

  4. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes ok. x
