This is a momentous week in my life. On June 17th I will be turning 27. I like to make a big deal out of my birthday because, well damnit it’s the day I was brought into this wonderful world.

According to my baby book, I weighed 8 lbs 9 oz and was 21″ long. I was born a big baby and I have remained a big baby. (See what I did there?) In honor of my birth, I am giving away a Lion Brand goody bag!

You can win a skein of Vanna’s Choice yarn and a smaller skein of Vanna’s Glamour, a CD of favorite LB podcast episodes, a Lion Brand magnet, a copy of Laugh with Lola, a copy of their catalogue AND a Lion Brand project bag! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite birthday memory is. Please be sure to leave either an email address or your Ravelry name so I can contact you. I will be drawing names via random number generator on Sunday June 17th so check back then. This giveaway is open internationally but please, just one comment per person!

  1. Happy birthday, Chica!

  2. I’ve never had great birthdays, as it’s smack dab in the middle of summer…so my friends were always on vacation during that time….but a couple years ago a friend invited me out for a birthday dinner and it was a surprise with a couple of friends waiting for me….and I rode a mechanical bull!

  3. My favorite birthday memory is when I got my first bike! I was turning 5 and I justgot the training wheels off. My mom was pushing me on it. When she let go, I kept going but then I crashed at the very end. I like it beacause it reminds me of knitting. Nobody is perfect in the beginning…

  4. My favorite birthday memory was when my sister made me every type of potato possible for breakfast before I went to school for the day. It was simple but it was special.

  5. Happy Birthday! My favorite birthday memory was my Barbie cake when I was 4. My mother made a birthday cake with a barbie in the center – the bottom of the cake was a ballgown skirt and the top of the dress was icing. Why I never got another cake like that is beyond me!

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  6. Yay June babies! Happy Birthday! I’m also June and I’d love to win!

  7. I learned how to knit at 27, and it’s the longest hobby I ever had. Have a wonderful 27th!

  8. I actually have three best birthday memories but they aren’t for my birthdays…it would be the days that my three beautiful daughters were born and they remain my three favorite days of the year . :)

  9. Happy birthday! 27 is a great age!

My favorite birthday memory is requesting a birthday *pie* instead of a birthday cake when I was 7. I felt like such a rebel!

  10. Congrats on your birthday – 27 is my favourite number so I hope you have an awesome year!

My favourite birthday was actually this year – my boyfriend had a work trip to Vegas (lucky him, I know!) and as it was at the same time as my birthday I tagged along. We went to a gun range and it turns out I am a pretty good shot, a limo picked us up and took us back to our hotel where we got ready to go out for a show…

It was a damn good birthday!

  11. Every year the fourth of july parade goes right by my house and my family ritually gather here for the event. One year the parade fell on my birthday and it was a great festive day and having my family all here for it was priceless.

  12. My favorite birthday was when i turned 21. My friends all gathered together in college and cooked a dinner for me. All of their family favorites which ranged from rice and beans to enchiladas verde, to bok choy. Great occasion!

  13. I would have to say that my 36th was my most memorable… You see, my birthday is 10 days before Christmas and I kinda have gotten hosed my whole life – except for that birthday because it was the first birthday that was all about me and there was nothing Christmas oriented or themed or gifts pulling double duty as birthday AND Christmas presents… my husband worked really hard to make it a special day for me – and he succeeded.

  14. My seventh birthday. It was a costume party, (October baby) with rollerskating and of course – a sleep over! Happy Birthday!

  15. I was born on a Friday… on the 13th day of August. Two years ago, my birthday again fell on a Friday. To celebrate, I took the day off from work. I enjoyed a day of biking around the city then a nice summer night out with friends watching a favorite dance company of mine perform in a park. Even the rain held off until after I got home… a lucky day if ever there was one.

  16. When I turned 18, I locked myself in the bathroom with a glass of wine and a huge slice of cake….I thought my world had come to an end and I was old!!!!!! Mmmm?? Happy Birthday!

  17. when all my friends and family celebrated at the drive in with my baby girl.

  18. My fourth birthday was most memorable to me. My mom baked a birthday cake for me and decorated it with a beautiful carousel on top. It was stunning. All my friends were there for the party and we had a blast! And a big Happy Birthday to you, Vanessa!! =)

  19. My birthday is late in May and one year when I was little there was snow on the ground at my birthday party. That’s Western NY for ya. Thanks for the giveaway and Happy Birthday!

  20. You don’t know how lucky you are to have a summer birthday. My birthday is only a few days away from Christmas which means people are mostly too busy to party with me. One year though, my family surprised me with a trip to Disneyland when I was a kid and it was SO MUCH FUN. I think I rode pirates of the Caribbean about 100 times… enough times for my mom to say… “wouldn’t you rather xyz?” Um no, I wanted to see the pirates again.

  21. My 50th birthday was SO memorable! My kids & husband threw me a surprise party, and I was so overwhelmed. Many friends and many laughs. A night to remember!

  22. Happy Birthday!! My favorite birthday was 13 years ago. My golden retriever, Cody, had passed away the year before on my birthday (one of my worst birthdays) and that year I received a beautiful golden retriever puppy, Chloe. I lost Chloe this past January and she was so special to me, I’m not sure I’ll ever recover from the loss, but that is why lately I have thought about that birthday often and it makes me happy to remember her and think about how lucky I was to have her.

  23. I become 28 this june. ^^
This year I will surely make a big party in my garden. The best thing about beeing a summerborn is to have garden parties with awesome weather. ^^

My favourite birthday party memory…. hmm… hard to say. It’s always nice to have the people you love around you and celebrate with them. And before celebrating you have to prepair everything. I totally love to think about my parties, make plans and cook and bake for my guests. And it’s great that my husbands birthday is just a week later so we can celebrate our birthdays together. :)

    I wish you a lovely 27th birthday.

    Love
    Jazzy

  24. None of them really stand out. Maybe some better ones in the future… Debbie

  25. Happy Birthday! My favorite bday was when I turned 30. It was the first bday that I was truly happy. :)

  26. I didn’t start celebrating birthdays ever until I turned 50. Good for you to care enough about yourself to celebrate your birth. It IS a big deal!

  27. I’m a winter baby. I missed school one year because of snow!

  28. I remember my fifth birthday. All I wanted to do was go to the library but it was closed for labor day!! Still makes me chuckle how disappointed I was!

  29. I loved my 15th bday that I went on a cruise with my family

  30. First and foremost… HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎉

I would have to my favorite birthday was when I was 15 and got a puppy. For years I would ask of we could have one and finally when I turn 15 I got one. Since I’m Spanish turn 15 is an important birthday what ca. Be a better gift then a puppy :)

  31. My 16 th birthday when I got my 1984 Pontiac firebird with t tops!

  32. Happy Birthday!! My most memorable birthday was when I turned 50!! My wonderful husband held a big party for me in New York City at a really nice restaurant with all of my family and friends and then afterwards we went to a place for drinks and then we had another little party back at our apartment!! It truly was a fun evening that I will never forget!

  33. Happy Birthday! Very exciting and what a great idea!

This is probably TMI, but the best b-day I ever had was when I got home to my boyfriend with a cheesecake in one hand, flowers in the other and wearing nothing but a bow tie! I still have that bow tie!

  34. First of all, Happy 27th Birthday! :D

For me, I think my favorite birthday would have to be my 23rd – I got engaged on a hilltop overlooking the Mississippi River. We’ve been married for nearly 13 years now, and it just keeps getting better.

Thanks for doing this giveaway! What a fun way to celebrate!

  35. Happy day to you! While all of my 55 birthdays have been memorable….i recall when i was 9 my father took myself and 4 friends to see The UnsinkableMolly Brown. And we have to wear snow boots as that year on MAY17th there was a freakish snowstorm here in MN. Not alot but we girls laughed and giggled whike my father swore under his breath!

  36. My 13th birthday party was unusual because it wasn’t a disco like all my peers had. We couldn’t afford to hire a dj, but we did hire the sports hall to have a roller-disco with our own music played on a record player in the corner of the room. Out of all the 13th birthday parties held that year, mine is the one still being talked about over 20 years later ;-)

  37. Happy Birthday! Thank you for this give away.

  38. It’s my favorite birthday memory now, but it was traumatic at the time.

For the eighth birthday, my parents thew a big family party for me, and there were probably 30 people jammed into our tiny living room.

As is tradition, I was sitting in the middle of the room, opening presents on the floor while everyone oohed and ahhed. I was enjoying the attention (middle child).

And then I got to the gift from my great-grandmother. I still have no idea why this is what she decided to get me, but she bought me underwear and little camisole training bra things. That I opened. In front of everyone.

I wasn’t 100 percent sure what I was looking at when I pulled out the camisoles, but I dutifully held them up like I had every other gift. And everyone in the room started laughing.

I promptly burst into tears and ran out of the room, halting the party while my great-grandma came to talk me out of my hysterics. Good times.

Hope your birthday this year is just as memorable as my eighth!

  39. Happy Birthday (early)! Birthdays are such a fun time. I have the best memories of birthdays as a kid.. My birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day and my maiden name was O’Grady so it made for very green, very Irish celebrations. My mom would always put me in a cute green outfit, make me a green cake (made with pistachio jello pudding in the mix!), and I’d even get green carnations from a family friend. I don’t think I can pick a favorite because they are each so special, but I do love a good birthday celebration.

    Hope yours is wonderful!!

  40. What a great idea…..my birthday is also a national holiday….everybody just doesn’t know it yet. My favorite birthday memory would probably be this year’s birthday. I turned 24 on the 24th and had a huge party! It was a blast!!!

  41. One of my earliest birthday memories is getting my hair cropped really short for my 10 th birthday, and absolutely loving it! Don’t think I’ve ever loved a hairstyle as much since:))

  42. Happy Birthday! Wishing you a wonderful day full of family, friends, and crafting!!

  43. I really enjoyed my 16th birthday party. I shared it with a friend and we invited a bunch of mutual friends and had a GREAT time!
