FO Friday: (Half of) A Pair of Socks!

Last night I finished the sock I’ve been working on!

It's a sock!

And I kept my promise to myself, I started right away on the second one. So I have no excuse for Second Sock Syndrome. Honestly, because it’s an ankle sock, it shouldn’t take me very long to do since there’s no boring leg to knit through. I’m planning on wearing these sockettes with some of the flat shoes that I have that tear up my feet if I wear them sock-less.

And no, Mom, I will not wear knee high stockings under jeans. She doesn’t read this blog but that’s always her advice. I do know that it bugs her to death that I wear sneakers as an adult and I haven’t outgrown my fondness for combat boots. That was a personal teenaged fashion choice that even my dad, who normally stayed out of things, disliked as well. I, however, am glad that the leather combat boot trend is still currently in for the Fall/Winter. But in a concession to age, I ditched the mohawk as soon as I turned 18. Yes, there are pictures. No, I do not have any uploaded on to my computer. I think that photo is still home in NJ. I’m surprised my mom hasn’t burned it.

EDIT: I searched high and low on Facebook and Flickr. Alas, I don’t have a digital copy of said photo. Perhaps I’ll see if my sister back home can find it and scan it for me.

For more Finished Objects, head on over to Tami’s blog.

  1. Well said … I wear sneakers EVERY day, even with a nice sweater or top. What is the point of lookin good if your feet hurt?!?!?! Nice sock!

  2. That’s a good looking sock! And, rock on with starting the second one… great idea!

  3. I just had a lightbulb moment while admiring your cozy sock. Absolutely love the ankle socks. Good job on going directly into knitting the second of the pair. As far as I am concerned, combat boots will always be in style. I have many assorted colors of Docs and will never let them go.

  4. Mom has the photo, remind me s’il vous plates and dishes.

  5. Nice sock! And good for you for plowing on to the second one right away. That’s my MO, too. Oh, and did you know that there’s a Very Important Rule that you are not allowed to discuss a picture of yourself with a mohawk and not produce it. I believe the term is, “Pics or it didn’t happen!”

  6. Great, comfy sock. LOL…combat boots.
I used to have a pair of Doc Marten boots. When I had Hell Week w/my sorority, we had to dress up as princesses once. I went all out and wore an old, fushia prom dress with my Docs that were laced up and had Cookie Monster bow biters in them!

  7. It IS a sock! Very practical for in sneakers, I’d say! I have some crazy spiked hair photos from the 80s too!

  8. The older I get, the more I’m concerned about keeping my feet warm and happy and less worried about how that looks to others :-) Life’s too short to have unhappy feet.

Handmade socks are the best — once I had some, I couldn’t believe I’d waited so long to learn to make them.

  9. Your sock looks super, I had not realised I was meant to stop wearing trainers ;) I suspect I never will. I think we need to see some pictures of this mohawk!

  10. Mohawk picture?? Please??

The sock looks great :) Hopefully the dreaded second sock syndrome does not hit you mid way through.

  11. I love it! I wear knee highs under jeans, but it goes down to -40 here. And you should post a mohawk picture!!

  12. Nice job on the sock, but all I can think is that I want to see this mohawk picture ;) Maybe your mum should scan it rather than burn it!
