BFF (and blog commenter) Leticia and I went to the Fiber in the Boro festival in Murfreesboro, TN. Husband was in tow as well and made his very first purchase of yarn! He’s currently working on a pair of garter stitch baby booties as a gift for a co-worker. We were lucky and found a skein of super wash wool in a bright green/blue color.
I also picked up some great yarn and Leticia’s bags are laden down with many silk hankies. We also saw some cute angora bunnies for sale along with sheep, cashmere goats and some llamas and alpacas. Paul wanted to take this guy home. I pointed out that the cat wouldn’t be happy, nor would our apartment managers.
I also pointed out that we don’t have the first clue on proper rabbit care.
There were quite a few vendors, mostly selling raw fleece. It was more of a spinner’s heaven than a knitters but there was plenty of handspun yarn. BUT the best stall was Liz Valentin’s Stupid Cute Designs. Her hand needled felted toys and purses are stupidly cute.
Plus she was super sweet to talk to. She’s a yoga instructor and learned how to needle felt in Portland. She is taking custom orders that will arrive in time for Christmas. My favorites are her monsters and her rodents.
I spotted a needle felted owl and I knew I had to take him home with me. He’s got a place of honor on the mantle now.
He’s just too darn cute. I still haven’t come up with a good name for him.
Stay tuned for Wednesday’s posts for pictures of husband’s first knitting project! He’s picking up quite naturally and I couldn’t be happier.
