BFF (and blog commenter) Leticia and I went to the Fiber in the Boro festival in Murfreesboro, TN. Husband was in tow as well and made his very first purchase of yarn! He’s currently working on a pair of garter stitch baby booties as a gift for a co-worker. We were lucky and found a skein of super wash wool in a bright green/blue color.
I also picked up some great yarn and Leticia’s bags are laden down with many silk hankies. We also saw some cute angora bunnies for sale along with sheep, cashmere goats and some llamas and alpacas. Paul wanted to take this guy home. I pointed out that the cat wouldn’t be happy, nor would our apartment managers.

Agnes the Angora Rabbit
I also pointed out that we don’t have the first clue on proper rabbit care.
There were quite a few vendors, mostly selling raw fleece. It was more of a spinner’s heaven than a knitters but there was plenty of handspun yarn. BUT the best stall was Liz Valentin’s Stupid Cute Designs. Her hand needled felted toys and purses are stupidly cute.

Stupid cute is right!
Plus she was super sweet to talk to. She’s a yoga instructor and learned how to needle felt in Portland. She is taking custom orders that will arrive in time for Christmas. My favorites are her monsters and her rodents.

So cute!
I spotted a needle felted owl and I knew I had to take him home with me. He’s got a place of honor on the mantle now.

Hoo Are You?
He’s just too darn cute. I still haven’t come up with a good name for him.
Stay tuned for Wednesday’s posts for pictures of husband’s first knitting project! He’s picking up quite naturally and I couldn’t be happier.

You are too fabulous! Glad you had a great time at the festival!!!! Enjoy the owl!
What a fun event to attend! Cute owl. I guess there are special cashmere goats then? Can’t use no ordinary goat?
Aww, the owl is quite cute. I would have wanted to take the bunny home too…
Sounds like a great day out, and the bunny is really very cute, leaving her behind would have been hard, but I think you are right, the cat would not have been impressed. Sweet owl and I am very impressed that you have got your husband knitting, my OH claims he knows how but refuses to prove it
Those needlefelted designs are gorgeous. I picked up some new needles and some tops to play with, last week. I must get cracking.
The angora bunny is delicious and I can imagine the beautiful little items you could make with her fluff, but you were right to leave her behind and take the owl instead.
It is so cool that your husband has started to knit – mind you he will soon be stealing your stash. I think more men would enjoy knitting if it wasn’t seen as such a “feminine” activity. It has so many mathematical elements and also relaxes the brain. More high powered business men should be forced to knit, and spend at least a quarter of their bonus each year on stash – the world would be a better place!
