FO Friday: A Sad Sock

Remember the sock I started a while ago? I took it with me to Houston and finished it there. And then promptly broke a DPN while on vacation.

Omen? You bet! The sock came out not exactly to plan.

Can you see the problems? Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

I grafted the toe correctly but I’m assuming it was in the wrong place? Could I have done the toe decreases wrong? I don’t know! This is what happens when I’m over confident.

There are gusset holes that I didn’t close and the heel is very droopy. This was my first time using eye of partridge so I have no idea if I did it correctly. I was working with out a pattern so I was just piecing parts of it from various sock patterns.

See how droopy and weird the heel is? *sigh* This is getting classified as an “UGH” on Ravelry. If you want to point and snicker, the project page is here.

  1. *hugs*

Seconded about the washing, and want to point out that that’s not the part of the sock other people will see. It’s still lovely.

  2. Awww, that’s sad. :( Not sure what could have happened with the heel, unless you did too many rows of eye of the partridge. Could that be?

  3. I love the pattern and the yarn is such a beautiful yarn. No expert on socks so no word of wisdom to offer! Sorry

  4. Have you washed it yet? I’ve had seams come out a bit wonky on socks that then looked okay once they were washed and worn. Then I’ve also ripped and reknit my share of projects lately, so I feel for you if that’s what you decide!

  5. Great colorway. Sorry it didn’t come out for you; that is extremely frustrating. Will you frog and redo?

  6. That blue is too pretty not to start all over again. Think of it as practice.

  7. That little bitty hole will never be noticed. Looks pretty good to me, but then I’ve not yet tried my hand at socks. Sorry to hear you broke a DPN, hope there was a yarn store around to buy new ones.

  8. Don’t give up. It is a lovely blue none the less. Hopefully you can learn from your mistakes.

  9. awww… everyone’s had a sad sock experience- don’t let it get you down!

  10. No pointing or snickering from me. Just a little sympathy, quite a lot of empathy, and complete understanding of your frustration.
How about some encouragement… the next one will be so much better, I promise :)
