I took a VERY long walk today with my sister. We dropped off her car for repairs and walked a good 45 blocks in 80 degree heat. Just a few months ago I didn’t have the energy to walk four blocks, much less forty. And for that I am so thankful.
We found some pretty cool stuff along Bergenline Avenue. I live in a very poor and very Hispanic area full of dollar stores, bodegas (convenience stores), and botanicas. All of this means there’s always something really cool and out there to find, if you know where to look.
This fox was in the front store window of a tacky clothing store. The moss is ugly and the fox was just sort of there. Very bizarre but I love it!
This was in the window of a junk shop. The owner ran out of the store and gave me the evil eye for taking the photo but whatever. I never understood why some store owners dislike people taking photos of their stuff. Weird. Anyway, I’m coveting this sewing machine but he was asking for $300 for it. For that amount of money, I’d rather buy one that hasn’t been sitting in a window for a billion years. I’m surprised he even said it was for sale. My experience with junk shops like this one is that the owner refuses to sell anything because they’re just a hoarder.

That is one of the classic models – but for $300 I’d need proof it was in perfect working order !
“Oh the postman always brings the mail
through rain or snow or sleet or hail…”
I have a newer model of that sewing machine, from the 50′s or 60′s. It has disks to make fancy stitches, but I only ever go forward, backward, and zigzag. Love that big heavy machine hum!
Wow you two walked about 4 miles. And in 80 degrees? I would be b*ing and moaning.
My parents block used to have an “antique” shop and the owner was very nasty. Ppl hated his shop and he would just bring more junk to his shop in his junky car which was filled w/stuff. Finally he left. He always had to deal with graffiti and whatever.
I want the fox and the sparkly fuschia wedgies!!!
That is funny, I had one of those great old machines, it could sew through anything. Only went backward and forward, nothing else but I loved it. When Hubby and I announced engagement, darling thoughtful mom traded it in for a super charged sports model that could spit nickles. You know I only used the super doper features once or twice and the machine has been repaired several times. Sigh…hope who ever has it now likes it.
My mom gave away that exact model sewing machine about 30 years ago. She is still kicking herself, which saves me the trouble. I wanted it!
oh a fireman is a person in my neighbourhood, in my neighbourhood, in my neigh-bour-hood, yes a fireman is a person in my neighbourhood, he’s a person that i meet each day!
(surely you knew that was coming; cos there’s always one!)
