Before finally decided on getting my Master Knitter title, I finally made the leap into color work. I made this hat in about a week during a neutropenic infection stay at the hospital.

The biggest downside of Hyper CVAD chemo is that after every B cycle I would be in the hospital for a week or two because of fever/infection since my white blood cell count would be zero. The upside was that I got a lot of knitting done and pushed myself to learn new techniques as a way of staying sane. So I learned how to work with colors and did a stranded hat. I present to you a deer hat.

Unfortunately, I intended for this to be a surprise and I didn’t measure my niece Olivia’s head before hand. I kept trying the hat on my hairless head and it fit perfectly. I forgot how much bulk hair adds so the hat tends to pop off her head. I need to make the ribbing longer and hopefully it will fit then. Or just re-do the whole darn thing.

This was a really fun knit and made the nurses laugh while I was knitting it. The yarn is from Debbie Stoller’s new line Full o’ Sheep. I used colors Thyme and Aquamarine.

  6. Hey, I don’t really know much about hyper CVAD, but I’m sorry you had to go through it. And glad to know you are now a survivor. I love your hat, it looks very soft and cozy

  7. Dude, I love that chart. There’s also one of bunnies that I tried to make into a hat once, but my gauge was… wrong. Your hat looks super cute and it looks really good without all the other stuff in the chart.
